A View on Teutonia – From the Inside Out
The below has been created to provide a view of the faction that we are trying to project to the outside world.
It is a guide intended for both individuals and groups to understand the intended identity the whole is striving to maintain.
Inspiration
A mixture of the Empire of Tolnedra (from the Belgariad and Malloreon fantasy novels of David Eddings)and events based on the crusading Holy Roman Empire (AD800 to about 1806) and the activities of the Knights Templar.
Morality
As a faction we are striving to fulfill the idea of a “Lawful Neutral” Empire.Individuals within the faction will of course stray across the full range of moralities but they must all ultimately accept the faction’s views
and priorities will prevail
The Teutonian honour code is not the same as chivalry.
Treating your enemy honorably is not necessarily the same thing as giving him a "sporting chance".
Most Teutonians recognize sabotage, stealth and treachery as integral parts of strategy; after all, if you can cut off your enemy's supplies,
attack him unawares, or disrupt his communications, you will have come that much closer to gaining victory for your lord.
The Heart
Teutonia is home to the Imperial legions, which make up the most orderly, neatly polished, and well-drilled army on the continent. It is also the legions who maintain the law and order across the continent that ensure the economic dominance of Teutonia. The Teutonian Knights are the elite from the legions. They are the best and the bravest warriors, they are the most skilled diplomats and cunning merchants.
The World View
We exist outside of Teutonia to both protect and further our own political and economic interests. We are honorable and loyal to our friends, allies and enemies but we are not Chivalrous, to us the end always justifies the means
We are the people of this world who get things done, who solve problems whilst others play at being Heroes
Organization
All creatures are created equal, and are considered such in the eyes of the First, their King and their Law. The Physical embodiment of the Law, and the presence of the First within the people is the King, and as such, he is the Law.Teutonia has always and will continue to be a feudalistic nation.
[FEUDALISM: The system of governing whereby semiautonomous landed nobility have certain well defined responsibilities to the king, in return for the use of grants of land exploited with the labour of a semi-free peasantry.]
The rule of law within Teutonia flows from its nobles and the City states they rule over. These cities are autonomous over their part of Teutonia coming together under the banner of Teutonia in the Reichsstand under the King.
The Teutonian Senate is the legislative body of the Teutonian Empire.
It is divided into three distinct classes:
Reichsstand - The Noble Council
The Prince Electors of Teutonia are second only to the King in influence and power within Teutonia.
The Princes of Teutonia are recognised nobles within the lands of Teutonia
The Advisory Council is appointed directly by the King to provide council on any matter the King so decides.
The Religious Council is comprised of both laypersons and clerical dignitaries recognised by the Gods of Teutonia.
Role of Religion
Religion has not been a serious force within Teutonia for years. It will not be the main defining aspect of Teutonia unlike the Lions, Algaia or the Wolves, but we will pay regular and proper respect to the gods. The Gods of Teutonia are the traditional or "Official" deities of Teutonia i.e. the religion which is the typical, most commonly worshipped and adhered to faith within the nation and as such we would expect the high ranking Nobility, Knights, Wizards, Diplomats and well respected folk of Teutonia to be followers of these faiths. Other Religions are merely tolerated, not encouraged There are of course other faiths and beliefs represented within the faction. Historically Teutonia has been perhaps the single most tolerant faction in terms of religions and we do not envisage this to change. Those people who choose not worship will not be persecuted but there will certainly be ramifications centered on these themes.
